So, there are some pretty big benefits to upgrading the site infrastructure to be based around WordPress 3.0
I’ve been holding off for a couple reasons – first of all, I’ve got some hacks to my core wordpress files to get the site to work properly, and I’m going to lose that through any core update. I’ll have to try to get them to work again.
Secondly, it’s still in early beta, which means that it’s probably a little unstable. Also a lot of the plugins will not work.
BUT a lot of the plugins won’t be needed anymore, since their functionality is built into this upcoming core release.
It’s a little scary and it’s really hard to predict everything that might happen while upgrading, but really now (before the site is in full swing) is the time to do it.
So I’m currently backing up every little bit of site content from the ftp and the database in a couple different formats (would be terrible to lose that!). At the very least it will be a day or so downtime/weirdtime while I change over, and quite possibly a couple days while I wipe everything and change back.
Wish us luck!
