Any reason why you don’t have “1001 Nights of Snowfall” to start off the reading order. I feel like it serves as a good introduction to Fables, and chronologically it would come first.

It’s kind of a hard one (and almost was there for a little bit) but I’ve figured it based on a few points. Like most of my lists, it’s a reading order and not a strict chronology.
Firstly, a lot of the fables stories take place in the far past or recent history, but I’ve always enjoyed how we learn more about the characters as the series goes on. We start out knowing little more than our knowledge of the fables they represent. I like that, so I wanted to keep it starting out with them already here and living their lives.
Second, though it is good, I think it’s a lot better knowing the characters that pop up in it – it’s probably BETTER than Fables Vol. 1, but Fables Vol. 1 would be weird to read later, whereas 1001 works in both places (though I think better when it was released). I like this one coming after Fables Vol. 7: Arabian Nights (and Days), since you’re familiar more with the context of Snow’s journey.
And then there’s also the idea/feeling that these stories might not be real stories of their past but just stories that Snow is telling. It’s an interesting angle.
Considering all that, it just felt easier to put it where it was released, and it fit nicely in there as a break before Jack of Fables starts.
