Update: Closed! Winners will be contacted!
Update 2: The winner has been announced!
Here’s the weekly giveaway!
Happy New Year, guys!
Good luck to everyone who participated in our massive holiday giveaways (for No Man’s Land and the Batman Animated volumes.)
Due to the amount of prizes going out and my personal end of the year financial obligations, haha, things are going to be a little slower in terms of contact/mailing turn around, but I’ll announce the winners and send out the books soon, don’t you worry.
Regardless of when books actually get sent out, we’ll keep up the weekly postings, of course.
While last week’s giveaway was part of the major celebrations, I wanted to pick something this week that tied into New Years a little bit.
This Newuniversal: Everything Went White hardcover sounds phonetically related, at least!
Collecting Newuniversal 1-6 by Warren Ellis and Salvador Larroca, this book revamps and reintroduces Marvel’s 80s New Universe characters as only a writer like Warren Ellis can.
It’s an enjoyable collection, though it’s obvious it’s meant for followups and the 2008 one shots/minis haven’t yet been collected.
Who knows, maybe they’ll announce the solicit for more (ideally written by Ellis) in the New Year?
Until then, maybe this hardcover will hold you over. Just leave a logged in comment to qualify for the random selection!
The Rundown:
(1) Prize: A hardcover copy of Newuniversal: Everything Went White
(1) Random Comment Winner: One logged in commenter will be randomly selected from the replies to this post.
Eligibility: You must be registered and logged in when you comment to be eligible. You must also be in the continental USA for shipping purposes. If you are overseas and want to pay for the shipping yourself, feel free to enter, but keep in mind that it will probably be more expensive than just buying the book.
Deadline: You have until 11:59 on Friday, January 7th, 2011.

Good to see you back, Ian…hope you enjoyed your vacation! And you know I’m always up for free stuff, so bring it on! :)

Thanks Marc! Driving down in that blizzard was a bit of a pain (not sure 45 hours of driving for two nights up north really constitutes much of a vacation) but these last few days have allowed me to get some stuff in order – finally to the point of letting Amazon give me recommendations and see if there is anything I’ve missed for the marvel list. 2131 titles in there so far!

Hey Ian. Well, at least you got to leave New Jersey. I’m still here. :) Once again, great offering for the giveaway.
I have two questions for you, this morning. One, have you ever tried http://www.abebooks.com? I buy most of my used books there. They’re great for TPB’s. Also, where do you keep all your books? Is that pic of the bookshelves on the front page really all your books?? (I only ask because I have limited shelving space.)
Anyway, have a great weekend!

I’ve used it in the past when I was being really anal about comparison shopping, but I never seemed to find as good prices as I could get through Amazon, Ebay, and Instock Trades. I think I did once or twice, but for about 98% of the books it seemed higher. Have you had better experiences?
I keep all my books on bookshelves. One of the great things about Savannah is that most of the houses have really big rooms. So I can fit 5 shelves in my bedroom and we also have a wide hallway, making room for 4 more full lengths. We’ve also got a bunch of shelving in our “studio.” It sounds pretty extravagant, but because of all the students I’ve been able to get all my shelving for about 20 bucks a bookshelf.
I don’t think the picture you’re talking about is of my collection, if I’m understanding you correctly. The header icon is just a random picture I found on the net. Those are probably just regular books too, they don’t look tall enough to be comic trades. I did post some pictures when I was moving all my books to a different room a while back, but I haven’t posted any pictures recently. I’d really like to, and probably will once I get my marvel books organized!

I use words. the allow me to let people know what I wish to say. I like it when others use words for that same purpose. For mor on words, pick up any book. Like this one for instance.

Maybe it’s my lack of sleep, but you’re seriously cracking me up right now.

happy new year everyone!
Woke up this morning with a feeling that every bone in my body is broken, a head as big as a balloon and a taste on my tongue like graveyard soil.
But despite all that I had to laugh when I saw the Newuniversal cover, because I simply don’t know it and thought: “What? Star Wars? Cool. Comment!”
So, nice giveaway-idead, Ian, and I hope you and all others around here had a good start in 2011.

hahaha, hungover much?
I’m embarrassed, I went to sleep at like 7pm without a hint of liquor in my body.

How is the Dark Tower? I’ve been vaguely curious. I read It by Stephen King and remembered it being scary when I was a kid.

I too am very curious about the DT series. How’s the art?

I ate the New Universe up when it intially came out and I was curious when this came out. A little Ellis never hurt anyone, right? And Happy New Year!
[Reply]
I haven’t read any of the original stuff. Was it good? I got intrigued when I noticed some of it was out in trade.

I enjoyed some of the titles more than others but it has been a while since I’ve revisited. I liked Starbrand, Psi-Force, and DP7. I tolerated Spitfire and Nightmask. Unfortunately, Justice, Kickers INC, and Merc held no interest for me. I really enjoyed the end specials though which just brought together all the characters under one title. I think that was Pitt, Draft, and War? I may have to dig through my longboxes. Wait a minute… I thought this was about trades!
[Reply]
hahah, sometimes I get curious about floppies
There are some trades, I think. DP7 Classic, etc.
